We live out of the area and normally don't eat at ESM's as we have been bitterly disappointed in the past. Not so at this location! Our experience here put this restaurant back on our radar!
Great service, friendly staff (ask for Holly, she's lovely) and the kids were well looked after. Not to mention the ice-cold beer and fresh and tasty food.
If you have given up on East Side Mario's don't pass this one up. These guys should show the rest of the chain how it's done! EXCELLENT!

I am confused by the "American" designation, since it is clearly German, right down to the delicious spaetzle and red cabbage. (You can only get the red cabbage if you ask, it isn't on the menu.)
The schnitzels are very good, with ample portions. (We have never tried the homemade desserts -- too full!) The meat is tender and set off well by the fine breading. My husband has tried every schnitzel on the menu, and has a hard time declaring a favourite - he enjoys them all.
The coffee is very good, the warm bun that comes prior to the meal is a nice treat. The service is usually very pleasant. A little more than a standard lunch in terms of cost, but worth it.

The innkeeper where I was staying recommended the Buttermilk Cafe for lunch, and it was exactly what I was looking for - casual dining with good food and service. It was obviously a popular place - it was almost full when I arrived, and I took that as a good sign but wondered whether the service would be slow. I was pleasantly surprised - I didn't have to wait long, and my server was friendly and efficient. I had the California chicken wrap, which was tasty and moist without being soggy. I would definitely go there again - my kind of place!

Returned here to friendly smiles after being far away from the area for 15 years.
Since 123 was established in 1998, it has clearly and consistently maintained a very high standard in the skill of their chefs and serving simply superb and delicious traditional/popular new world Chinese food.
123 isn't a restaurant and perhaps that is in its favour as a take out and away service where the emphasis is entirely on the food and the quality of the cooking. So, as far as 'atmosphere' goes, it gets a 5 star rating for not having one! Place your order and it is filled efficiently and on time. They deliver in Cobourg but it's also no wonder that people drive in from all around to pick up. This place is that good.
I cannot ever recall a dish from 123 that was disappointing. If there is a weakness, (that might be considered a strength from a business perspective) it might be in the limitation of the menu where one might not find a dish or two that is commonly found elsewhere. Still their success is obviously in providing enough variety in key Cantonese, "Hong Kong", Szechuan and new world dishes to satisfy the majority of people.
If you are used to ordering 'off menu' and asking for favours in combinations of things, you won't find that at 123. Perhaps if one was to get to know the chef personally after several visits and face to face that could be done but that's not a part of their formula.
Of course, a necessity in Chinese cooking (and anything outside of a crock pot) is the freshness of ingredients and here is where 123 delivers. The veggies crunch, the wraps and breadings are crisp and the meats are tender. Nothing soggy as in so many other places. The crispy fried won ton are incredible. They're big and fresh and crunchy!
The Lemon Chicken is presented in little thinly breaded chicken bites that can be lifted with your chopsticks and dipped into the delicious lemon sauce. We loved the spicy curried Singapore Rice Noodles, the Happy Family (a combination of meats and veggies) as well as the San Goo Guy Pan and Beef with Chinese Green. The honey garlic ribs were fresh and tender; not 'stringy' or tough. The fried rice is outstanding.
This place and the people who make it happen deserve the custom they receive. What a pleasure.

This was a 1st time for us just moving into the area and we were not disappointed at all! Waited about 40 minutes as restaurant was extremely busy but.. food was HOT! Tasted amazing, portions were huge, not overly greasy. Best Chinese food we have had in along time. I would highly recommend them!

It is a comfortable, homey atmosphere where you are served a delicious meal that is superbly cooked .........fresh ingredients, nothing overcooked. It reminded me of Sunday dinners at Grandma's house.........dessert was also fabulous and fresh-made. Being a Vegan for only 10 months I find it almost impossible to eat anywhere! We went to the Old Newcastle House and I was advised to try the veggie stir-fry. I have to admit I was hesitant, it was fabulous!!! I love to cook so therefore find it hard to find food I can say I love in most places!!! The company I was with also really enjoyed their food a lot! I have to say being OCD I always tend to look at the surroundings and this place is a little gem it is extremely clean ( which I love ) and beautifully decorated. This is our second visit and I look forward to many more !!!

Today was my first visit to Hockey Sushi. I was more than impressed! The service was FAST, and they food was amazing. So much variety. The concept of this buffet so so unique, but it makes so much sense! Everyone can get what they want, with little to now waste, and no contamination from other guests.
