At the busy sushi bar, chefs create impressive platters of sashimi, occasionally apologizing for a less than perfect toro that is nonetheless much better quality than what we are used to consuming at many Robson sushi bars. A salad of spinach and enoki mushrooms is redolent of sesame oil, and yellowtail carpaccio is drizzled with red pepper-ponzu sauce. Maria's is a Kitsilano institution. The atmosphere is everything you would expect a Greek restaurant to offer complete with pictures of Greek scenery adorning the walls. The food is really good and even my wife who is not the biggest fan of Greek food loves the food at Maria's. I usually have what I had on our most recent visit...one of the souvlaki dinners. Our most recent trip I had chicken souvlaki and the chicken was perfectly tender and the potatoes and rice were great too. Next time you have a hankering for Greek food visit Maria's Taverna on 4th! We chose this location as it served both brunch and lunch options on Sundays and it takes reservation through OpenTable. We tried the breakfast manouche, lamb sausage with poached eggs and lamb kafta. Both were very good and flavorful. Their daily juice special was made with fresh ginger and it gave it a nice kick. The service was good and the lower level of the restaurant was full. Lots of pay street parking else park a few blocks away where there are no meters in the residential surroundings. Read more
